The Bakken Museum and Lockheed Martin Partner in Science Education to Present 'Rhythms of Science'

MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. -- February 5, 2003 -- The Bakken Museum, Minneapolis, and Lockheed Martin, St. Paul, Minn. are pleased to present "Rhythms of Science" in February. Lockheed Martin's sponsorship will support The Bakken's science and industry education program for children of all ages. This is part of an on-going Lockheed Martin initiative to increase the availability and quality of science education in the community. The sponsorship will provide youth scholarships to attend Bakken's Family Science Saturday program, support training to enhance mentoring programs and students to train as historic docents for the Bakken Museum. As the demand for those skilled in science disciplines increase, Lockheed Martin is committed to creating and supporting educational opportunities for children to learn about the opportunities available to them and to be successful in the areas of math, science, engineering and technology. During each "Rhythms of Science" Saturday in February, Bakken visitors can explore the pulsating connections between science, arts and humanities. The schedule of special February "Rhythms of Science" Family Science Saturday activities include: Feb 8th Minneapolis Green Central School students perform as 'Scientists from the Past'. Swing Music! Make music with pendulums. Feb 15th Heart Rhythm! Control the beating of a heart. Optical Illusions! Use eye rhythms to trick the mind. Feb 22nd St. Paul Webster Magnet School students perform as 'Scientists from the Past'. Celebrate Engineer's Week with Lockheed Martin. Bakken Admission: Regular admission: $5 adults, $3 students, $3 seniors, free for children under 6 years old. Free admission for members. Saturday activities are included with regular museum admission. Hours: Family Science Saturday activities 10 am - 4 pm. Exhibits are open from 10 am to 5 pm.
