Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Employee Honored With Hispanic Engineer National Achievement Award

Michael Gutierrez, a Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Co. employee, has been named the "Most Promising Engineer" in the undergraduate degree category of the 2002 Hispanic Engineer National Achievement Awards.

Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Co. is a business area of Lockheed Martin Corp. . Gutierrez accepted the honor in ceremonies yesterday at South Padre Island, Texas.

As a senior systems engineer, Gutierrez supports avionics development teams working on programs with the U.S. Air Force, European air forces and Taiwan. He maintains and develops test procedures and conducts integration testing.

Two other Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Co. employees were also nominated for Hispanic Engineering national awards: Alvaro Bermudez Jr., for Outstanding Technical Achievement, and Eufracio Benavides, for Most Promising Engineer in the advanced degree category.

The mission of the Hispanic Engineer National Achievement Awards organization is to enlighten the community and the nation about the achievements of Hispanics in science and technology. The goal is to motivate and educate more Hispanic students to pursue these careers, thus increasing the role that the Hispanic community plays in contributing to America's status as a world technology leader.

Other Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Co. employees to win diversity-related national awards this year include Charla Wise, winner of a Lifetime Achievement Award from Women in Aerospace, and Teresa Wegemer, winner of a National Women of Color Technology Award for Managerial Leadership. Also, Michael Fortson won both the Black Engineer of the Year Award from Career Achievement and the National Society of Black Engineers Golden Torch Award for Distinguished Engineer.
