Lockheed Martin received a $163.7 million order from The Boeing Company to produce the advanced TIGER Eyes(TM) Sensor Suite that will provide targeting, navigation, terrain- following and Infrared Search & Track (IRST) capability for F-15K fighter jets recently ordered by the Republic of Korea Air Force.

The advanced electro-optical suite, an evolution of combat-proven LANTIRN and U.S. Navy IRST technology, will enable pilots to fly and fight day or night, and in adverse weather.

In addition to the targeting pod, navigation pod and IRST system hardware, the award includes training, spares, and logistic support.

"Our TIGER Eyes Sensor Suite will give F-15K crews the most prolific and successful targeting and navigation system in the world," said Kenneth Fuhr, Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control program director. "Additionally, the IRST brings an advanced threat detection system to improve the pilot's air-to- air combat effectiveness."

The TIGER Eyes Sensor Suite includes mid-wave staring array Forward Looking Infrared (FLIR) navigation pods with terrain following radar, mid-wave staring array FLIR targeting pods with a 40,000-foot laser and Charge Couple Device (CCD) TV, and a long range IRST system. The targeting pod design facilitates the precision delivery of air-to-ground weapons at the longer ranges of today's precision weapons. The TV complements FLIR capability during daylight operation.

IRST, a pylon-mounted version similar to the U.S. Navy F-14 IRST system, allows pilots to detect and assess long-range airborne threats. A passive long-wave infrared sensor system searches for and detects heat sources within its field of view. The system gives the aircrew unprecedented on-board situational awareness while significantly enhancing the engagement range of modern high-performance weapons.

"Our team's expertise and creativity in upgrading targeting, navigation, and IRST systems continues our legacy as designer and producer of the most successful combat vision systems in the world," said Michael T. Donovan, the vice president in charge of combat vision systems at Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control.

"This order benefits the ROK and will also benefit Central Florida by adding future work in Orlando and in our Ocala manufacturing facility," added Donovan. "Along with Sniper XR, PANTERA, Joint Strike Fighter Electro-Optical Sensor System, and NITE Hawk, the TIGER Eyes Sensor Suite is keeping our Combat Vision Center the world's leading supplier of electro-optical targeting and navigation systems."

Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control develops, manufactures and integrates world-class air defense, fire support, strike weapon, naval munition, combat vision, anti-armor and advanced product solutions and systems for U.S. and international armed forces.
