The Lockheed Martin team has been selected by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) to implement a national contract to train more than 30,000 airport passenger screeners at 429 airports across the country before the end of the year.

Awarded as part of a competitive bid, the goal is to train a new screener workforce that will protect the flying public and maintain the smooth running of the aviation system by the efficient and courteous moving of passengers who represent no threat through security checkpoints. The contract is initially funded at $25 million, with a potential value of up to $105 million.

"Our team is ready to start immediately," said Elmer Nelson, program executive, Lockheed Martin Homeland Security. "We have been working together since October in preparation for the RFP and contract award, and have a corps of experienced trainers ready to go."

As part of the effort, passenger screeners will focus on pattern recognition, develop the ability to cope with conflicts and perform duties while being subjected to distractions, and sharpen their skills related to object identification and removal.
