The name of the fund was chosen to reflect the strength of the American spirit, which has shown its resilience when tested throughout U.S. history.
"As a Lockheed Martin team, I am confident that we can provide major assistance to those who desperately need it. I want to give you my deepest thanks for your consideration of this initiative and all your efforts on behalf of our country." Lockheed Martin chairman and CEO Vance Coffman told employees on September 12 when the fund was established.
The Community Foundation for the National Capital Region will help Lockheed Martin distribute contributions to relief organizations in New York, the Washington, D.C. area, and other regions impacted by the September 11 terrorist attacks.
