Lockheed Martin Naval Electronics & Surveillance Systems (NE&SS) business unit in Moorestown, N.J., recently made two significant accomplishments in the arena of environmental, safety and health. The site, home to about 4,100 employees, was accepted into the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) National Environmental Achievement Track and was recognized by the National Safety Council for surpassing five million hours worked without a lost-time injury.

The EPA's National Environmental Performance Track program was established to recognize and encourage top environmental performers. The program recognizes and rewards businesses for exceeding environmental protection requirements. Surface Systems has continuously demonstrated a strong record in environmental management and exceeds regulatory compliance for waste recycling and reductions in air and water pollution.

Surface Systems also received the Perfect Record award from the National Safety Council for surpassing five million hours worked without a lost-time injury. "Achieving this recognition from the National Safety Council is the culmination of years dedicated to the focused efforts needed to successfully integrate safety and health management systems into the business," said Bob O'Brien, manager, Safety and Health at the Moorestown facility.

"Both accomplishments are a testament to the professionalism and dedication of every employee," said company President Fred Moosally. "Five million hours without a lost-time injury and being accepted into the EPA's Achievement Track are certainly major achievements we are proud of and we intend to keep up the pace."

Surface Systems is also a STAR site in the Occupational Safety and Health Administration's (OSHA) Voluntary Protection Program (VPP). As one of the largest VPP STAR plants in the country, the company has formally committed itself to becoming one of the safest workplaces in the nation.

Lockheed Martin Naval Electronics & Surveillance Systems (NE&SS)-Surface Systems is home to 4,100 Lockheed Martin employees and is one of five major lines of business comprising the Lockheed Martin NE&SS business segment.
