Argentine Customer Declares Lockheed Martin ATC System Ready for Daily Operations
PRNewswire
ROCKVILLE, Md.

Lockheed Martin Air Traffic Management announced today that the Argentine Air Force, Comando de Regiones Aero, Division de Sensores de Radar, declared its new air traffic control system provided by Lockheed Martin fully operational. The Lockheed Martin SkyLine system is now available for unrestricted use to control air traffic at the Ezeiza Area Control Center (ACC), serving Buenos Aires, Argentina.

The system, which completed its site test last December, was designed as the Ezeiza Flight Information Region (FIR) air traffic management system. It will operate independently and provide the Ezeiza Center with controller work positions that allow controllers to perform area, approach and traffic flow functions.

The new Ezeiza system integrates data from four different radars with the flight data and makes it available to all working positions. Three of the radars are Argentine and, in a regional display of international cooperation, the fourth one is a Uruguayan radar following an agreement between the two countries to exchange radar data. This permits the controller and ACC supervision to work with live radar data covering an area of 1200nm by 800nm centered on Buenos Aires, in an integrated display that ensures greater safety and efficiency.

The Skyline system also provides a surveillance processing subsystem, an ICAO-compliant flight data processing subsystem, and an intuitive user interface that simplifies the air traffic controller's task by integrating flight plans, flight strips and radar data into one integrated system for airspace control and management. Using the automated flight plan data, the ACC will be able to anticipate air traffic flow, improve flow control functions, and increase efficiency, which in turn will benefit the flying public.

The new SkyLine system, which uses commercial-off-the-shelf hardware, increases the radar control area and provides new automatic flight plan processing and flow management capabilities. The efficiency of the SkyLine system will also make it possible for the customer to address future Argentine airport CNS/ATM enhancements.

"This is a very important milestone for us in continuing our relationship with Argentina," said Don Antonucci, President of Lockheed Martin Air Traffic Management. "We are committed to providing cost-efficient and affordable state-of-the-art solutions, in order to respond to our customer's air traffic management requirements in a timely manner."
